What Have We Been Up To?

Over the past several years, PAE and SAE representatives have been intentional about refining a unified message and strategy aimed at decision-makers and emerging arts parents to sustain and strengthen arts education programs.

Creating tools to send a clear message across all of arts education

  • A 10 minute video (via a TEDX talk) on why we need fine arts education, where we need to spread this message and how to do it

  • Created The Human Skills Advantage™ framework and launched the "Fine Arts Builds Human Skills" movement

  • Stickers, buttons, t-shirts and other swag to connect us all under one message and cause

  • Flyers, ads and presentation materials to bring awareness to the entire community and educate young families and education leaders

Presentating to Arts Leaders

Over 18 presentations/workshops with arts administrators, teachers, parents and students

  • sharing messaging

  • providing clear data

  • discussing strategies on outreach

  • coordinating advocacy across all arts disciplines

Encourage

Community Outreach

Parent and student volunteers provided fun, interactive activities for young attendees at 3 community events over the last year with overall attendance over 30,000!

Activities like bucket drumming, "write a song for a high school student to perform", and an instrument petting zoo with our local music company partners.

This is how we spread the message of fine arts education and stop waiting to "preach to the choir, after they join choir"!

With additional resources and more regional coordinators, we can provide these types of volunteer opportunities and fun activities at more community events in the future

Support

Attending Events

Throughout the year, Alumni Parents with PAE have attended shows, contest and events to support these amazing programs but at the same time they ..

  • talk about and distribute information on why participation in these programs is important

  • provide extra volunteers if needed

  • find an "excuse" to continue to stay connected after children graduate

  • enjoy amazing performances as a united group across all of the arts!

Adding the united parent and student voices to advocacy

Advocate

Over the last year, PAE representatives attended multiple advocacy days at the Texas State Capitol, partnered with arts organizations to issue proclamations and remind our leaders that fine arts education is vital to a well rounded education.

Additionally we tried to be at the Capitol whenever a young student group performed to show our support and encourage their parent chaperones to remind their representatives to support fine arts education.

With additional resources, we plan to create advocacy training programs for parents and students to learn how to craft their stories and strategize how to bring awareness to these programs in their local communities.
